I used an Edmodo snapshot today to assess my classes' mastery of RL11-12:1 and RI11-12:1 (citing text to support analysis of what text says explicitly and what can be inferred).
In 2nd period standard English III:
RL: 38% met the standard 38% are borderline 24% are behind
RI: 23% met the standard 35% are borderline 42% are behind
In 3rd period English III co-op
RL: 21% met the standard 28% are borderline 51% are behind
RI: 21% met the standard 28% are borderline 51% are behind
In 4th period standard English III:
RL: 46% met the stndard 23% are borderline 31% are behind
RI: 42% met the standard 23% are borderlingg 35% are behind
Conclusions: The majority of my students are better at citing and drawing inferences from literary text than they are informative texts. 3rd period needs more work on this skill than 2nd or 4th. Additionally, 3rd period is equally behind in both literature and informative text on this skill.
